Countertop Options
Which countertop options are right for you?
Are you in the process of remodeling your kitchen? One of the most important features of your kitchen is the countertop. As you probably already know there are many choices of kitchen countertop materials. From a variety of colors and finishes and a wide range of prices, you will certainly have a difficult choice to make. To help you narrow down your options here is a list of the most popular kitchen countertop materials.
Quartz Countertops
One of the most durable countertops available is quartz. Crushed quartz stone is paired with a man-made resin that creates a countertop that comes in solid colors to a multitude of granite like styles. It is virtually impossible to chip or crack a quartz countertop. It is also bacteria and stain resistant. You don’t even need to seal a quartz countertop. Quartz can be very pricey and may not be quite as heat resistant as other options such as granite. Another issue could be that when joining two pieces the seams can be noticed.
Granite Countertops
The most popular style of countertop is granite. Thousands of homes boast granite countertops because they go with a variety of kitchen styles and always have an eye-catching look. Granite is a very strong material. This tough stone is resistant to chips and cracks. You may also place hot dishes and pots on it without worry. If you apply a sealer about once a year your granite will also stand up to stains. Without regular sealing, you could have stains that require refinishing to remove. Another important factor is that when you pick granite you are only seeing a small piece of a large your slab which may not look exactly the same as in the sample.
Laminate Countertops
At $10-$40 per-square-foot laminate countertops are by far the most budget-friendly option. Since laminate is a man-made material the colors and patterns available are endless. Laminate countertops are stain resistant and never need any ceiling. Laminate countertops are not quite as durable as other materials they can scratch or chip easily and you cannot put hot pots on the countertop. Laminate countertops are also difficult to repair if you have a scratch, stain or chip.
Tile Countertops
If you are going for a very specific look for you may desire a tile countertop. Tiles come in a variety of colors and styles that you can mix-and-match to create a custom look. Tile countertops are very easily cleaned except in the grout lines. Most tiles will also be resistant to staining, scratches and heat application. This countertop material is also easily repaired because if a tile is cracked only one piece will have to be replaced.
Wood Countertops
Wood countertops have a great look and are highly functional. When wood countertops are properly sealed they are ideal for food preparation; you can even chop meat directly on the countertop and not have to worry about bacteria. Wood countertops are also heat resistant. If you get a stain on the wood countertop you can easily sand a thin layer off and reseal the countertop.
Marble Countertops
A marble countertop exudes high class and impeccable taste. This stone countertop is highly durable as well. You will need care of it regularly with sealing and proper maintenance. Marble countertops are more porous then granite and staining could be an issue.
